Vendors selling goods into Illinois that are taxed and later found to be used in an exempt manner are routinely denying vendor refund claims for overpayment of the tax. There is no other mechanism in Illinois to obtain a refund of sales tax paid to a vendor. Carefully review payment of Illinois sales taxes to vendors to avoid losing unrecoverable overpayments of sales taxes. This issue is especially critical for Illinois based manufacturers.
